The Tank isn’t the only prominent wristwatch from luxury powerhouse Cartier. 

Predating the Tank Louis by nearly two decades, the original Santos model was designed in 1904, and has seen any number of iterations in the past century — including a brilliant revival in recent years. Available in quartz, hand-wound and automatic varieties in different metals and configurations, it’s an important historical model and one of the maison’s finest creations. 

This particular Santos, the Galbé2 2319, is a special edition dating to circa 2002. Housed in a 29mm stainless steel case with a sapphire cabochon crown, a smooth bezel with eight screws, and a solid steel case back, it features a luminous grey sunburst dial with white Roman indices and a matching sword handset. Powered by the Cartier Calibre 381A automatic movement, it comes paired to a matching steel integrated bracelet and shows only light wear throughout.
